Making Music Growing Spirits

Parents, grandparents, and godparents; ministers, teachers, musicians; adults, teens, and children are invited to join Emily Scott, Song Leader and Pastor as we explore ways to engage children in the spiritual practice of singing!

Emily Scott is the pastor of St. Lydia's Dinner Church in Brooklyn, and a leader of congregational song.  In addition to serving as a facilitator with Music That Makes Community conferences, Emily was the Director of Family Music Ministries at First Presbyterian Church in New York City.  Her work as a song leader invites children and adults to explore their voices as they learn and sing music from a variety of traditions in ways that create connection and built community.

The workshop will be from 2-5 PM. The cost is $10 per adult (children under 18 attend for free)

2-3:15 PM: Part I-Making Music at Home

We will begin by exploring practices that integrate singing and spirituality into everyday life with a focus on supporting younger children (ages 0-5) in spiritual music making at home. Children and adults will be engaged in a fun and participative time of music making and movement, then invited to explore and practice practical ways of integrating music and singing into their routine.

3:15-3:45 PM: Snack Break

3:45-5 PM:  Part II-Making Music in Community

We will continue by exploring practices that empower older children (ages 6+) to join and lead spiritual music making in worship and other community settings.  We will learn some new songs, hone our leadership skills, and prepare to lead music for St. Gregory's Supper Service which begins at 5PM.

Online registration for this event is now closed, but participants who have not yet registered will be able to do so at the event on Sunday. Email Donald Schell at [email protected] with any questions. We look forward to seeing you on Sunday!
