Explore ways paperless singing can awaken and strengthen the voice of the worshipping assembly, inviting us to deeper listening and awareness through oral tradition teaching practices. And experience a variety of inspiring liturgical music - newly written material, ancient chants, and global songs - that invite us to sing prayer and praise as an intergenerational community.
The workshop will be led by MMC presenter Scott Weidler, who served the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America as Program Director for Worship and Music from 1995 to 2016, and now a resident of Toronto. He'll share from the depth of his experience as a liturgical musician in both local and national contexts, and help create a participatory, generous space for learning and growth.
The event is sponsored by the Synod of Alberta and the Territories of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada. Last summer, a three-day Music that Makes Community workshop was held in Calgary. The response was so positive friends in Edmonton wanted to experience the practice. This event will be for newcomers to paperless music and leadership, but seasoned leaders are certainly welcome to hone their own skills, enrich their repertoire, and serve as mentors to others.
Lunch is included in the modest registration fee of $25 CAD, which can be paid upon arrival.
