REGISTRATION FULL/CLOSED

Music that Makes Community is excited to offer a One-Day Community Singing Workshop before the Nebraska Synod Assembly in Kearney on Friday, May 31 from 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. New MMC Executive Director Conie Borchardt, experienced MMC facilitator Rev. Breen Marie Sipes, and ELCA Churchwide Worship staff John Weit will offer a lively day of singing, learning, and community building.

Whether you are a musician looking for new inspiration, or someone who just appreciates learning and listening, this is a workshop for you. Using the gifts of community founded in the work of “Music that Makes Community” and potentially other related resources, Pastor Breen Sipes and friends will lead this time together as a way to find joy and explore and to bring that sense of joy, wonder, and exploration back to your own community contexts. No special talents required - just a love of music and fellowship. Singers of all backgrounds, ages, and experience levels are warmly welcomed to participate!

During our time together we’ll:

  • Pray and play together through song, nourishing our hearts and imaginations for what is possible in our communities
  • Engage models of teaching and leading that welcome our bodies, hearts, and minds
  • Experience music reflective of the growing diversity of our communities and celebrating our rich spiritual and liturgical traditions
  • Build community and strengthen relationships through singing

Each person will leave with new music to share, as well as experiences of learning and teaching songs applicable to their context. All who love to sing are warmly welcomed, as well as those who lead music in church, community, and educational contexts.

The cost of the workshop is $25/person, including workshop materials, continental breakfast, lunch, and refreshments throughout the day.  We do not want the cost to prevent anyone’s participation, so please reach out to let us know if you need scholarship support. Please contact Conie at [email protected] or (612) 204-2235 with any questions.
