Composing Ourselves is a supportive space for first-time and seasoned song-creators alike, a regularly-convening song composition group with special sessions exploring approaches to song-writing.
Composing Ourselves is a new MMC offering rooted in the conviction that we are all song creators, and the tunes we need for this moment can be written by us for our communities' needs, questions, challenges, and hopes. Like Virtual Practice Groups, participants will gather around the process of writing and sharing songs as a way of cultivating resilience in these challenging times, with supportive facilitators sharing inspiring prompts and inviting improv and play.
Each session offers a playful, exploratory space to notice how the different elements of music fuse with text. There will be singing, improv, creative prompts, and spaces to create and receive feedback within a supportive context. We'll have special guests each session offering insights that help nourish and spark our creative work.
Registration is on a sliding scale, from $300 to $150 (total) for six (6) sessions, plus drop in times for song sharing and ongoing learning. The group will gather for the first time on Thursday, September 30 at 7 pm Eastern Time.
Additional meetings will be:
Thursday, Oct. 28, 7- 8:30 pm Eastern Time
Thursday, Nov. 11, 7- 8:30 pm Eastern Time
Thursday, Nov. 18, 7- 8:30 pm Eastern Time (in place of Nov. 25/Thanksgiving)
