Guide Our Feet

1. Where did you learn the song? 2. Any tips on leading it paperlessly? Teach it in two measure segments then sing it in unison until comfortable enough to try it as a round. If you have a instrument, you can play chords or hints of the chords with a drone to help people get comfortable with the melody line before dropping out for the round. When teaching, you may need to pay extra attention to the interval that lands on the word "rest." I usually try to sing it in canon at least twice through. A third canon can be added as well. 3. General information about the song: This song was written for a clergy backpacking trip in the Grand Canyon as I was processing the sudden and shocking death of my dear friend and fellow pastor, Jeremy Fuerst, who had just tragically died in a rock-climbing accident. It has now become a regular companion song. It is meant as a morning, noon and night comfort and strength piece. It also works well as a sending song during Advent and Lent. The "Amen" as a fifth two-bar set is meant to be sung every every time and is included to add a sustained element to the canon so the movement does not become too monotonous.
